Advent 12: SMS Give Away Day

Today is give away day at Sew Mama Sew and I couldn't miss out on all the linky fun now could I? Hello if you've just stopped by because of the give away. Feel free to have a nosey around. Of course I'd love it if you decided to stay and become a follower. But you don't have to to enter. :-)

Today I've had the day off of work to go so I could finish my Christmas Shopping and help my Mum with hers. Then it was back home to get organised. There is a couple of non Christmas stressy things going on in my life right now so I almost forgot about the giveaway. I have also broken the rule where by it's advised to get a good picture of your give away loot if you want people to stop by.  So here is an uninspiring picture of part of my give away loot. Hopefully it won't put anyone off...

DSC09624

A zippy pouch made out of some Amy Butler Coriander Fabric. Inside will be some designer scraps, some buttons and some other sewing related swag. If I got it all ready right now, ready to photograph, I would be doing this give away in about three days time and miss out on all the fun. So if you're game for a bit of a surprise feel free to enter. :-)

It can sometimes be hard to know what to comment on in give aways. So in case you're stuck for something to say. Here is a completely random question: what is the worst present you've ever received?

The draw will take place on 16 December 2011. It's open to anyone anywhere. If I can post the item to you then you can enter! Now do pop along to Sew Mama Sew to see what else you can enter for.

Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

  1. The worst present I ever received? Hmmm...I don't really have any horror stories. I do sometimes get clothes that don't fit from family that is too far away to really do anything about it. That always sucks.

  2. Oooh, ooh, me first, me first! Umm, okay, I think the worst pressie I ever got was a compact camera. Now that probably sounds terribly ungracious, but I got it about 3 years after digital compacts had come out, no-one asked me if I needed a new one (I didn't) and it got used on one holiday. That was it. I also don't think I hid my disappointment terribly well either, although I tried.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  3. I can't remember anything 'cause I always make a list or buy it for the person who's making the gift !

I'm up for some suprise :)
    Thanks for the chance !!

  4. I didn't actually received bad gifts, but once I got the book I already have, so probably this would be the worst present I've ever received (I couldn't show my appreciation in a way I would done it if it wasn't duplicate:(

  5. I don't remember any bad gifts, guess I'm lucky. I love the pouch you're giving away.

  6. I have never seen that fabric in blue before! It is beautiful! I don't have a worst present ever received, but I gave a present so bad, that the person gave it back to me for me to use instead.

  7. Probably getting a hard drive when my little brother got an iPhone! Ughhh.

  8. Worst present? I've had plenty! My husband received a knitted cactus in a little pottery pot for his last birthday! Ugh! Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. Before I met my husband, my mom gave me a really tragic dating advice book the same week my best friend gave me a different awful dating advice book, both unsolicited!

  10. I've received a few too many kitten calendars in my day.

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway.

  11. Definitely a filing cabinet was my worst Christmas present received!

  12. After having gotten some scraps from you, I'd love some more!
Worst gift was when I was a teen and my Oma gave me a singing doll. Not exactly thrilled with that one.

  13. Your zippy pouch with the coriander fabric is sweet-- and I love that you are going to include some sewing-related surprises inside. The worst present I ever received was for my birthday, back in 9th grade (c. 1979) A couple of my friends got together and gave me a double [vinyl] album of The Doors, who were popular at the time, but I personally NEVER liked them. So it wasn't awful, but I did have to feign appreciaiton.

  14. The first year we were married, my husband got me lingerie that was too small. I wasn't sure whether to be flattered or feel bad that I was bigger than he thought :)

  15. One year I got 3 jumpers - one from MIL, and one form each SIL. Two were the same, all 3 were the wrong size and all I could get as a refund was sale prices.
It's the thought that counts eh?

  16. Yeah - a surprise give away!

Worst present ever was sparkly makeup.... which clearly I would never wear !

  17. Size 20 knickers from my Grandma when I was 20 and a size 10!
    Yay for dodgy pics! xxx

    ReplyDelete
  18. Worst present...hmmm. We got given 9 vases for our wedding, even though we had a large and varied registry that did not have any vases on the list. I feel ungrateful saying it...but I didn't like any of them!

    Love a surprise giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Worst present...an old lady umbrella when I was in the 4th grade.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Surprises are the best.
Worst present? I'm not sure I can think of anything major off the top of my head, generally it tends to be those random little stocking stuffers that I don't know what to do with - hideous little coin purses and bizarre jewelry holders that sit in a box until I stop feeling guilty and send them to goodwill. I always feel utterly wretched when I get a gift that I don't like - I want to love everything that people give me.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Our worst gift was a pair of tickets for a version of Swan Lake that we had to walk out on because it was so disgusting! I won't go into details - you wouldn't want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks for the giveaway!

Worst presents are most often from my MIL. She is a wonderful lady but buys me clothes and bases her choices on items she would like for herself. She is 88. Enough said?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't think I could top those you posted about the other day - I still feel a little queasy at the thought!
I do remember being distinctly unimpressed with a black messenger bag for work when I really needed a little frivolous luxury!
Thanks for a lovely giveaway :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lol, cute zippy, and I love surprises! Worst pressie? Mum gave me some kind of ancient external memory drive for the computer that dad had bought at a car boot sale. It was massive and help about 1% of what memory sticks hold, but as it was brand new in box he thought it must be a bargain....wrongggggg! Needless to say, I regifted it at our new years party! x

    ReplyDelete
  25. Worst present ever? Hmmm... I think all of the frilly dresses I got as a kid after I hit my tomboy phase.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Worst present is every gift given to me by a certain aunt who shall remain nameless but can you imagine a clay teapot with a lizard on it?! Sadly, I can ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I haven't had too many bad presents, but the one that sticks in my mind is a robe that I got when I was in high school from my grandparents and it was probably a size 8 kids...way too small.

    thanks for the giveaway!

  30. My worst present ever was a Sams Club membership. I just never shop there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for the chance to win this cool stuff!
The worst present... hmmm... I'd say a bag of white chocolate truffles. I hate white chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The worst present ... well, one Valentine's Day, my boyfriend's EX-GIRLFRIEND sent me a box of chocolates, because she knew he would not do anything and she felt sorry for me! And she was RIGHT. Hee.

    ReplyDelete
  33. MEMEMEME! That never seems to persuade Mr Random to actually pick me bit I keep trying!

I do really well with pressies (despite having slightly odd tastes) but my MIL insists on buying me tiny wee lacy knickers that make me itch just looking at them. I haven't the heart to tell her I'm strictly a 100% cotton boy short girl!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Years ago my husband bought me a really, really expensive antique lamp (like about $700 and I don't really like it). We have it displayed in our living room anyway. I sound really ungrateful but I think it pains me when money is wasted.

  35. I try my level best to love the presents I get. If i don't like something I usually re-gift it, but never to the person who gave me.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm game!! The worst present I ever got was when my dad bought me a Mariah Carey CD when I had asked for a Silverchair CD! In retrospect, perhaps I was a bit harsh on him, but it was a pretty big misstep when I was thirteen.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I can't really think of a really bad present I've recieved, but I definitely remember my 10 year old brother recieving a teddy bear print nightgown (what the?) from a certain aunt!

    Thanks for the giveaway

  44. Well, back when I was 12 and a fierce animal rights activist my grandfather gave me a necklace with pearls and I remember being so upset because they killed the oysters to get the pearls. I was a handful when I was young.

  46. The worst present...nothing is jumping out at me...maybe that duvet cover that i though i hated, but actually ended up loving! hmm...that doesn't seem like the correct answer. once a 'friend' gave me a gift certificate to a steak house...i'm vegetarian.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think I have been really lucky and can't think of an awful christmas present. Love your pouch

  49. The first year I was married, my husband bought me a pack of colored sharpies for my birthday, that's it. Altho I love the sharpies, I was not impressed. It took him a while to realize that I like gifts that weren't something that I wouldjust buy for myself.

  55. Totally game for surprises! Worst gift was after the 18 days of my bday of wonderful gifts from my husband, ON my birthday he gave me a cast iron grill pan. Really?? Killed all the charm and romance in all he did. On top of that I had to make dinner, no going out for my bday bc of all the $ he spent on the 18 gifts!!

  57. I tried to enter this yesterday, but my comment wouldn't work. My worst present was an ice-scraper for a car windscreen with a glove attached. It looked like something that had been grabbed at the petrol station, but my poor SIL was really offended that I didn't show more enthusiasm. She was being thoughtful and trying to keep my hands warm!
Thanks for the great giveaway x

  67. I don't know if I would classify this as the WORST present but it is certainly an interesting one. My mother was a skinflint - grew up poor, in the depression and then the war - so she was always devising interesting ways to get things we needed fill two bills. When I was six or seven I received for my birthday six plastic cups. They were to be toothbrushing cups for the entire family and because it was my birthday I got to open the present and then get first pick of the colours. I picked the blue one. They had silver sparkles embedded in the plastic. And there were two of the emerald green ones - obviously for mother and father. Anyway I had that cup and used it for years, and grew to have a fondness for it. But I certainly felt gypped out of a birthday present. Thanks for a chance at your lovely giveaway.

  68. Worst gift goes to the Screatchy Frog toy a friend gave me because the Screatchy frog on the TV advertising ring tones made my skin crawl. That toy almost made me homicidal.

  69. I really appreciate whatever someone gives me. I realize that they took the time, effort and funds to bless me.Many things I receive are not useful to me but I just re-gift. I have been given jewelry items many times although I wear very little. I just wait a bit and then give away.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I dont think there was ever a bad present. I have loved them all simply because they were given out of love. But if I had to pick one it would probably be on my sixth birthday when i got two of the same Littlest Pet Shops. I was very disappointed.

  92. The worst present ever? A used minidisc recorder. It is actually exactly what I needed, but it broke DURING a concert when I wanted a recording of myself. If you're buying something electronic - go with a new product after reading reviews online, not one that's been used :(

  108. I think the worst gift ever was from an ex boyfriend who took a $5 spree through the dollar store and bought me these hideous hair ties and socks. 109. Such a cute purse and a surprise makes it more fun! And a great question for commenting on. Some of the replies have been very funny - if only they were accompanied by photos!

Can't think of a really awful gift I've received but I gave a bad gift! I gave my deb partner a Green Day CD back on highschool, thinking I was awesome finding out his favourite band. Later one of his friends told me he didn't have a CD player! Mortifying at 16!

  121. What a hard question! I think the worst "present" I received is free baby formula - I made the mistake of signing up to them when I was pregnant thinking I would get coupons for other things. I breast feed exclusively, so I have tried to get them to take me off their list, but they keep sending me stuff. I think this is the worst present because for some women, it might sabotage their attempts at breast feeding.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I like surprises! My worst gift probably was the used eraser my brother gave me when we were little. I was disappointed that it wasn't something interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I feel bad posting about the worst present I've ever received, so I'll tell you what I got in a white elephant exchange--- a deck of cards with only 41 cards. ugh. Luckily, I was able to fave the final steal and get rid of those cards. :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. It might now seem so bad, but for my 5th birthday I got a My Friend Mandy doll. I'm sure every normal kid on the face of the Earth wanted one, but I definitely did not. I remember someone taking my picture and me just trying my best not to cry. What I really wanted was Matchbox cars or some woodworking tools.

The one wedding gift that I received that I couldn't bring myself to put out was a giant 8x10 crystal/glass frame that was not at all our taste. I kept it in the box in the closet for a few years before finally donating it. Maybe someone out there loves it, who knows? :) Thanks for the chance to win!

  136. The worst present I ever got was an (ugly) broken lamp from my grandpa for my 16th birthday. My birthday is always around American Thanksgiving and we were doing a combined birthday and family get-together. We always do a white elephant swap for Thanksgiving and I guess he decided to extend it over to my present as well...

  137. Not a bad gift, but my husband gave me 2 kitchen knives, when from his conversations I mistakenly concluded he was getting me jewelry. A bit of a letdown! ellen@myerly.net

  139. I received the ugliest fabric sewing machine cover! It wasn't handmade--a mass-produced wonder in pink, blue, and white with giant applique hearts and a cat. I hated it for several years and recently passed it off in a white elephant gift exchange! Cruel, maybe, but it made for a very funny time.

  140. I received just a horrible red sweater. Im in my 20s and this sweater wasn't even close to my demographic. The worst part of it was that it was a secret santa where we were able to list a few items we'd enjoy/want. I had nothing even close to this. I specifically stay away from clothing with these types of things.

  146. I love a surprise giveaway! The worst gift I can remember is a musical figurine of Santa wearing a Hawaiian shirt and driving a convertible. It was odd and totally not my taste. (I'm not sure it would be anyone's taste, for that matter.)

  149. Can I share the worst present my husband ever received? Last year my MIL gave him some underwear. "Underwear?," you think. "That's not so bad." No, no, it was used underwear. It had belonged to his dad who passed away 8 years ago. Seriously. She has held onto it and then gifted it to my husband (her son) for Christmas last year!!! You know what she said when he opened it? "It's okay, I washed it."!!! We could not stop giggling!
    Thank you for the giveaway!
